Problems With Radeon 9800 Pro

The card does not seem to be overly hot to the touch when it shuts down...but more cooling may be the fix. Does ANYONE have ANY idea what could be causing this? I play all games at 1280×960 (or something). It needs a good deal of power, it needs cooling that goes beyond merely adequate (cases that have 4+ extra cooling fans are a good idea), it needs updated AGP drivers http://wphomeguide.com/problems-with/problems-with-new-radeon-9800-128-non-pro.php

but just to be sure that the card is at fault you could test it in a different machine (if one is available). I had the same problem and the cause was the cooling fan. I do have 3200+ CPU though. I put everything back together and made a wish. http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/171855-ati-radeon-9800-pro-problem.html

Enermax 460watt PSU. Try it. 3DMark 03 has been running all night when it used to lock up after 10mins. Can a liquid system be installed as an add-on or do I need to buy a tower with a liquid system. To play Call of Duty 2 without performance problems I had to turn anti-aliasing off and turn the resolution down to 800×600.

Only the 16/32 bit switch doesn't solve the problem. Results 1 to 5 of 5 Thread: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro giving me weird problems... This problem just gets weirder. visit They also have some driver cleanup util somewhere at the site, but I always just unisntall them from Add/Remove Programs thing.

Also, if you have a 9800pro, they haven't even been out for a year yet, how can the warrenty be gone?

If I were to upgrade my graphics card though, I would have to also upgrade my motherboard to one that supports PCI-Express graphics card, and upgrade my processor to one that other Shadow_Ops_Airman1 Dec 03, 2003, 12:30am EST Reply - Quote - Report Abuse Private Message - Add to Buddy List >>Re: Problems with Radeon 9800 Pro video cardHeck if u think The time now is 06:58 AM. I'd say I used to have a little better performnce in CS:S (prolly an average 70-90), but I think they broke it in all the patching they've done to the game.

I realize the 9800 Pro is not a new card, but with a gig of RAM and 2500+ CPU, it should not be that bad. see here Any ideas or should I just replace the card with one from a different manufacturer? He opened the sides to the computer & blew air in with a floor fan. After attempting to run Sim City 4, and the screen becoming garbled, the Recovery thing kicked me out of it and everything was back to normal...except that Windows had reverted to

Card worked fine for about a month then I started noticing glitches. Next question: Since he can't leave the sides open and cool with a box floor fan, I heard somewhere someone had installed a liquid cooling system in a computer. I just got a new motherboard and processor (P4 2.8, Asus motherboard...) and finally got to use the 9800 Pro I bought months ago. this page Hope this helps Tony Hutchinson Sep 10, 2003, 01:31pm EDT Reply - Quote - Report Abuse Private Message - Add to Buddy List >>Re: Problems with Radeon 9800 Pro video

And it runs everything just fine -- just not games. The game continues to work properly (this has been verified on a second LAN'd computer in the same room...I can view myself on the second computer when it is in follow Power supply is 450w.

Oh yeah, and the Catalyst 3.8 drivers cause a ton of game crashes. The case ran me about 250 and you still have to buy water block type solutions for each part you cool. Several functions may not work. So, if you've installed your new drivers over your old drivers and are experiencing performance problems, it is definitely worth a try to uninstall the drivers and then install the latest

What are the exact system specs? I can't seem to locate the settings. A case like this could easily cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. http://wphomeguide.com/problems-with/problems-with-ati-radeon-9600-pro.php So I decided to order a cooling kit and thermal compound from OCSystem for the 9700 series.

I've learned a lot along that path and will share failures and successes with you via email. I view the case as an investment to be used over and over in the future. Same thing with Catalyst updates, always delete the old version before installing the new. -J Bill N Nov 27, 2003, 01:05am EST Reply - Quote - Report Abuse Private Message - http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1288 This may not be a problem on the 9800 as I believe ATI has the R350 chip now installed on those boards.

The friend was not able to duplicate the problems when my son shipped the computer home last month. I thought it might be the processor or motherboard, but after switching to 16 bit color and back to 32 bit, the problems completely went away and I was able to AMD ATHLON XP [email protected] AIUHB (9.5x133) @1.800v Coolermaster CP5-8JD1F-0L & Artic Silver II ABIT KT7A-RAID (Revision 1.0) Bios B4 ANTEC SX830 CASE QTEC 400W PSU 1GB RAM (512MB (2x 256MB) Crucial Refreshing the desktop helped sometimes. Also, the screen seems to leave fragments on the screen or a dirty line of pixcels on the screen.

Around ten minutes, my computer is almost unusable. The ATI R300 VPU has a gap between the chip top surface and heatsink due to the fact that the shim is too thick. This corrected the problems for the most part. jake Sep 08, 2003, 10:13am EDT Reply - Quote - Report Abuse Private Message - Add to Buddy List >>Re: Problems with Radeon 9800 Pro video cardgetting the card replaced
