Microphone works fine from the front panel, so there shouldn't be any hardware issue. Make sure you download the right driver, as wrong driver may cause serious problems. If I go to ‘Sound' I can see that the device shows that music is playing (green bars appearing next to it on the right), but nothing is in my headphones.
