Given the low voltage/high current found in laptops - I suspect that one of your chips on the motherboard has given up the ghost. If it works, you may have a defective battery that needs replacing. Try removing the battery to run the laptop from just the AC power. It could also be a disc left in the DVD or Blu-ray drive, so check those too.
