linw12-02-2007, 04:18 PMI have an ASUS A8N-SLI mobo with both SATA and PATA drives but my BIOS has a section to select which HDD to boot from. Can I install my old Maxtor IDE drive without any conflicts or cable conflicts (even tho the later will have a flat cable)? That can be a problem both when you install XP originally, and whenever you boot from a device. that is why i supposed that other fellas answer was right because it seems as though the BIOS wants to load that IDE first everytime i re-install and when i switch I have a SATA drive as the primary and and IDE slave. Changing the SATA to "Raid/ATA" on a dell worked for me. The other is that you cannot simply switch the SATA Port Mode to AHCI later. Anyone know if I can upgrade my bios for my MOBO which is a Dell Dimension 4600 model 02y832 current Bios version is A12.
