I did the same and got BIOS that was perfectly able to POST with 5770. It didn't boot with that video card either, so I'm quite certain now that it's my motherboard that is faulty, despite the fact that I'm using the computer right now with I tried the GPU on a friends computer and it also didn't work so i knew it was the GPU that was dead.

A friend suggested trying it without the case's HDD LED plugged into the mobo, so I unplugged that tiny little inconsequential cable and it booted first try.
